Characteristics of maintenance free batteries

2020-08-11

1. Due to its structural advantages, maintenance free batteries consume very little electrolyte and do not require the addition of distilled water during their lifespan. It also has the characteristics of shock resistance, high temperature resistance, small size, and low self discharge. The service life is generally twice that of a regular battery.

2. Due to the use of lead calcium alloy grid frame in maintenance free batteries, the amount of water decomposition and evaporation during charging is low. In addition, the sealed structure of the shell releases very little sulfuric acid gas. Therefore, compared with other batteries, it has the advantages of no need to add any liquid, less corrosion to the terminal and wires, strong overcharge resistance, high starting current, and long battery storage time.

3. Maintenance free batteries do not require the addition of distilled water throughout their entire usage period as the electrolyte only produces a small amount of gas at normal charging voltage. Under normal charging conditions, they do not need to be removed for recharging. But during maintenance, the specific gravity of the electrolyte should be checked.

4. When the maintenance free battery is charged and discharged normally, it does not emit acid mist. The hydrogen and oxygen gases generated during water decomposition are also converted back into water through the catalyst and pressure inside the battery. When the internal pressure exceeds the set value of the pressure relief valve during overvoltage charging, it is discharged to the outside. Therefore, under normal use conditions, the loss of electrolyte is minimal.

5. Maintenance free batteries, due to their new safety synchronization device, not only retain acid gas inside the single cell battery, but also prevent sparks from entering the battery. This not only reduces battery explosions caused by external factors, but also keeps the top of the battery cover dry, thereby reducing corrosion of the terminal posts and ensuring a firm and reliable electrical circuit connection.
